About The Clinician

Stephanie is a dedicated student enrolled in the Master’s program in Marriage and Family Therapy at Capella University. As part of her training, she is currently undergoing an internship and practicum at the Washington Area Clinical Center, where she is gaining practical experience and honing her skills as a future clinician.

Stephanie is deeply committed to the concept of early intervention and prevention in her work with families and individuals. She believes in the transformative power of therapy to help families and their members actualize their potential and create fulfilling relationships and lives. By addressing issues at an early stage, Stephanie aims to empower her clients to make positive changes and develop the necessary skills to thrive.

As a clinician, Stephanie embraces three core principles that guide her approach to therapy. First, she recognizes that all behavior can be understood within a larger context. By considering the various factors and dynamics at play, Stephanie seeks to gain a comprehensive understanding of her clients’ behavior, allowing for more effective interventions and support.

Second, Stephanie firmly believes that behavior and context are not solely determined by the individual but are influenced by a multitude of external factors. She acknowledges the impact of family systems, societal influences, and generational patterns on an individual’s behavior. By recognizing this interconnectedness, Stephanie aims to help her clients develop insight and perspective, fostering personal growth and change.

Lastly, Stephanie recognizes the detrimental effects of shame and understands that it is an ineffective and damaging teacher. Rather than focusing on blame or guilt, she creates a non-judgmental and compassionate therapeutic space where clients can explore their experiences and emotions without fear of shame. Stephanie believes that this approach promotes healing, self-acceptance, and resilience.

Through her education, training, and adherence to these guiding principles, Stephanie is dedicated to becoming a skilled and empathetic clinician. She is passionate about helping individuals and families overcome challenges, improve their relationships, and build lives that they genuinely enjoy.
