Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find out how much I will have to pay?

Our standard fees are posted above and reflect the amounts that will be charged to you and/or your insurance company. If you are using insurance, we will submit a claim on your behalf. Your specific individual or family insurance plan determines what your responsibility will be; not our clinic. The only way to verify and confirm how your insurance carrier will process and apply your plan benefits is to call them. Most clients using insurance are responsible for either a copay or deductible (unless they have Medicaid). Clients who have Medicaid pay no out-of-pocket costs.

What should I ask the insurance company when I call?

You should ask your insurance company the following questions:

  • What is my out-of-pocket cost for outpatient mental health services in-office?
  • Are telehealth services covered under my plan?
  • Do I have a copay? If so, how much is my copay?
  • Is there a deductible that must be met before services will be covered?

What is a copay?

A copay is an amount set by the insurance company that you must pay before services are rendered. Our office charges copays for each visit within 24 hours of your appointment.

What is a deductible?

This is usually a lump sum amount that your insurance requires you to pay out of pocket first before they will begin paying for services. Deductibles can range from $150 to $6,000. It is very important that clients understand whether a deductible applies to their plan.

What happens if I have a deductible and I cannot afford it?

We are unable to modify or waive any fees negotiated between you and your insurance carrier. However, we offer Care Credit and payment plans that can help reduce interruptions in services. We also offer low-fee and pro-bono services to clients who are uninsured.

Can I pay over time?

Payment is due at the time of service. Due to the personal nature of the therapeutic relationship, our office does not allow clients to accrue debt with us. If you are experiencing financial hardship, ask about our low-fee and pro-bono services. These services are limited and available on a first-come-first-serve basis.

What if I don’t have any insurance?

Maryland offers assistance to clients who are uninsured and meet certain criteria. We automatically screen to determine if you are eligible for these services when you register to become a new patient. Additionally, we have a limited number of pro-bono and low-fee services available to clients who do not meet the criteria and are uninsured.

Is there a separate fee for medication management?

The codes for medication management differ from therapy and may result in a different copay. In most situations, there is rarely a difference.

How will I know what the cost of my meds will be?

If you are using insurance, it is likely that your pharmacy benefits are different from your medical benefits. It is important that you speak with your insurance company to review your pharmacy benefits and determine if you have a copay and deductible for these services. Additionally, some brands of drugs may be covered at different rates. Our office will always work with your insurer if a prior authorization is required for a specific drug, and will support you with signing up for prescription drug savings coverage to help you afford your meds. Please discuss your concerns about medication with your provider during your visit.
