About The Clinician

Meet Dr. Heather, a caring and experienced counselor with a passion for helping clients achieve their mental health goals. She holds a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Bowie State University. With over a decade of experience, she has worked with a diverse range of patients and colleagues, gaining valuable insights along the way.

In her previous role as a guidance counselor, Dr. Heather provided therapeutic support to clients from various socio-economic backgrounds. Her clients came from all walks of life, including those who grew up in extreme wealth and others facing challenges living below the poverty line due to disabilities or health conditions. Working with such a diverse group enhanced her understanding of different cultures, enabling her to create a therapeutic approach that respects each client’s unique perspective. Empathy, intuition, and her extensive training and experience are at the heart of her work with clients.

During her graduate studies, Dr. Heather engaged in various cultural training modules, which she later applied in educational settings like Prince George’s County Public Schools, the Department of Defense, and Harvard Educational Leadership Training. Her experiences led her to recruit teachers from the Philippines to address a shortage of math and science educators, and she took great joy in guiding and mentoring them. These experiences broadened her horizons and taught her how to support others in understanding local social norms and cultural differences, making her a well-rounded and culturally aware counselor.

Dr. Heather’s main theoretical orientation is rooted in Albert Ellis’s behavioral therapy model, which helps her guide clients effectively. However, during specific sessions, she may draw from Adlerian or Minuchin models to gain deeper insights into family dynamics.

Her ideal clients are military personnel dealing with combat stress, adjustment issues, work-related challenges, and stress management. Dr. Heather is committed to helping them achieve better overall health and stronger relationships.

As you begin your therapeutic journey with Dr. Heather, you can expect a safe and comfortable environment. She starts with a touch of humor, fostering a non-judgmental atmosphere that encourages open communication. Through collaboration and honest discussions, she aims to help you achieve your desired outcomes in counseling. Your well-being is her top priority, and she’ll be there every step of the way to support and guide you.
