Katherine is a dedicated Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical (LCSW-C). She received her B.S. in Psychology: Counseling & Human Development with a Minor in Special Education from Liberty University. Katherine has 10 years of experience working with children and families in a variety of settings including; elementary, middle, and high schools, community workforce development programs, psychiatric hospitals, medical hospitals, and outpatient therapy practices via telehealth and in-person. She has also experienced working in educational community non-profits supporting students and families from cradle through career and beyond, partnering with families and individuals to help meet tangible and intangible needs. Katherine has worked at both Inpatient and Outpatient mental health and medical practices. She sees children and families as people in their environments, not in vacuum. While also taking time to recognize each family’s strengths and what has kept them going to this point.

Katherine’s is passionate about serving clients with relationship issues, anxiety, racial identity, chronic illness, caregiver stress, grief and loss, life transitions family therapy, parenting support. She supports people who may feel overwhelmed by life and unsure of how to take a step forward. Her ideal client is someone who is ready for a change, or open to the idea! Katherine is also passionate about working with couples and families.

Katherine also serves clients who have experienced trauma, community violence and witnessed violence. Trauma-focused therapy guides Katherine by taking the posture that everyone ought to be treated with gentleness, compassion, and be given the benefit of the doubt, regardless of how one may present themselves. Asking the question: “what happened to you”, instead of “what did you do?” She focuses not only on their trauma, but centering their strengths and healing.

Katherine believes that no individual or family is the same and that everyone has strengths. She knows people are the experts in their own stories and should be approached with humility and curiosity. Her core belief about therapy and the process of change is that it is that it is multi-dimensional, unique to each individual, communal, and ever-evolving. Success for one person, may look very different than success for another, and every win, is indeed a win. As a therapist, Katherine believes her role is not to instruct someone on how to live and change, but to cultivate an atmosphere of reflection, courage, accountability and self-empowerment that fosters growth and change in the ways each person uniquely desires for themselves.
