What Is an IOP — and Why Comprehensive Care Matters

Specialized Therapy Services We Offer

An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a structured mental health treatment option designed for individuals who need more support than traditional weekly therapy, but do not require 24-hour inpatient care. IOPs typically include multiple therapy sessions per week, skill-building groups, and close clinical monitoring to support individuals in achieving lasting mental wellness — all while allowing them to continue living at home.

At Washington Area Clinical Center, we are proud to soon offer a comprehensive IOP program that will be virtual and available to individuals throughout Maryland. What sets us apart is our fully integrated care model — therapy, medication management, and IOP services all under one roof. This allows for seamless coordination between providers, stronger continuity of care, and a more personalized approach for every client.

We are a culturally sensitive practice, dedicated to serving Maryland’s diverse communities with respect, understanding, and tailored support. We believe that strong partnerships with case managers, hospital discharge teams, social services agencies, and local clinics are essential for building a true continuum of care for those we serve.

How to Join Our IOP

To be considered for our IOP, individuals must receive a referral from their current mental health provider (such as a therapist, psychiatrist, or primary care provider). This ensures that IOP is the right level of care based on clinical needs and helps us maintain a safe, supportive environment for all participants.

Once referred, each client will complete an intake process with our team to confirm clinical fit, discuss scheduling, and review expectations for participation.

If you would like to connect about referrals to our upcoming IOP — or if you’re interested in building a relationship with our team — we would love to hear from you!

Together, we can create a stronger support network for individuals and families across Maryland.
